Worship Gathering Sunday Night 11/14

We will be gathering for worship this Sunday night at the Alexander house – 320 S. Buck Board Drive. If you’d like to join us, we’ll gather about 6:00pm We’ll begin with a meal together and move into a time for worship.  We’ll be looking at Matthew’s Gospel and how the eyes of Jesus’ disciples became opened more and more to who it was they were walking with.

Come prepared to share a story about when your eyes were opened.

If you can’t be with us, pray for us.

The Blue Ocean Project: Love the Neighborhood

The visible goal: A Christian community of faith that gathers regularly for the neighborhood.

Project goals:

To join God in his work in us and through us to…

  1. Be with Jesus who is sending us.
  2. To gather and form a community of faith that continues to gather regularly for the neighborhood.
  3. See more shalom break out in the neighborhood so that needs are met, joy and generosity increase, relationships are restored, lives are lived for God’s glory, God’s grace and truth are proclaimed
  4. Learn and be able to share and repeat a process to build communities like that wherever Jesus puts us.

We will try to build this community the way it unfolds in the gospels, following the pattern which Jesus showed us when he built his community. In other words, in the way of Jesus. This is unpacked in the video below. (Credit to Mike Breen and Alex Absolom for the word-way-works triad!)

This is our pattern in a nutshell.

40 Days of Prayer

A message on the temptation of Jesus – Matthew 4:1-11

Prayer – Jesus into the neighborhood.

Contact Work – Be with people in the neighborhood and appropriately announce God’s kingdom.

Connecting Experiences – Develop a rhythm of gatherings

Threshold Crossing Experiences – Do what we can to bring people before Jesus

An on-going up-in-out fellowship – pull together as a new community of faith that is for the neighborhood and the city.

40 Days of Prayer

If you want to join in, some of my friends and I are beginning a season of prayer.

We’ll be praying for schools is on August 8 (2:00 Elementary, 3:00 Middle School, 4:00 High School, 5:00 College). The next day begins our 40 Days of prayer running from August 9 until September 17. I am commending two resources for it. 1)The Gospel Coalitions – 40 Days of Prayer for the global church (link below). Each day contains a story from the global church and a guide for prayer. 2) Mark Batterson’s Draw the Circle 40 Day Prayer Challenge.

Let me know of you want to take that journey with us. Just get the resources and take some time each day to read and pray.

Here is the 40 Day Prayer Guide from Gospel Coalition.

40 Days of Prayer, Prayer at Schools, and Unity Day St. Augustine

A group of us will be joining together in prayer from August 8 until September 17 – and you are invited to join in.  I commend two resources.  First, click on this link to visit the Gospel Coalitions website to download the PDF 40 Days of Prayer for the global church.  Each day contains a story from the global church and a guide for prayer.  The stories are pretty inspiring and should encourage each of us in our life on mission.  The other resource is Mark Batterson’s Draw the Circle 40 Day Prayer Challenge.  Many of us have gained insight for prayer working through that one.  I plan to use both.

August 8 is also a day for prayer in schools.  If you can manage, get out to a school near you and pray!  Here’s the schedule:

2:00 Elementary and K thru 8

3:00 Middle School

4:00 High School

5:00 College

Also, remember August 21, 11am – 5pm is Unity Day St. Augustine @ 10 N. Holmes Blvd.
