Missional Micro Post on Bi-Vocational Pastoring

I’ve been a bi-vocational pastor for about five weeks now.  I just thought I’d offer some very brief reflections.

1) Days are full.  So are evenings.  Being bi-vocational is a lot working two jobs.  I crash pretty hard most nights.

2) I don’t have as much time for  blogging and communicating.  Hmm.  The sky hasn’t fallen…  And more people are visiting the blog than before.  Again, hmm.

3) It’s so much fun to be learning new things, to be working with my hands and my mind, and to see God providing for my family that way.

4) My coworkers rock at their jobs.  And they are patient teachers.  And we’ve had some pretty awesome conversations about life.  I’ve had the privilege of praying with some of them, too.  My main witness is that I work with all my heart – seeking to please God.  And every day I want to get better at it.

5) It seems like there’s renewed energy within FCMC, too – or maybe its just renewed joy in ministry for me.  It’s liberating to be able to pour myself into ministry without wondering too much about finances.  It’s also liberating to see resources coming into FCMC, knowing they will be focused more toward mission rather than salaries and administration.

6) It feels right.  I know it could change – but really, it just feels right.

7) Hugh Halter’s book BiVo is a good read if you are considering this step.

God is good!
