Humility Month Day 7: Whole Hearted God Seekers

This is the day the Lord has made! Get a Bible (in print or virtual) and work through all or part of the prayers, scripture, questions and the reading below. May whatever portions you complete be spiritually nourishing and may the Lord bless you and make you more aware of who he is and who you are!

— Praise: (1)
God,
Father, Son, Holy Spirit;
Three in One both now and forever
You are God.
We bless your name this morning, for you are the God who keeps his promises.
You promise not to leave your people in exile.
You promise to bring us home.
You promise to restore what was lost.
You promise to let yourself be found by those who earnestly seek you.
By the power of your Spirit, place such earnestness in our hearts.
Reveal yourself to us, we ask,
As we pray, read, meditate, and reflect on your word.

— Scripture:
Come Holy Spirit, open our minds and hearts as we read your word:
Jeremiah 29:4-14

— Answer these three questions:
What does this passage say about God?
What does this passage say about people?
As a result of this reading, what is one step God is inviting you to take?
Who is one person you will tell about that step today?

— Response: (2)
Everlasting God,
in whom we live and move and have our being:
You have made us for yourself,
so that our hearts are restless until they rest in you.
Give us purity of heart and strength of purpose,
that no selfish passion may hinder us from knowing your will,
no weakness keep us from doing it;
that in your light we may see light clearly,
and in your service find perfect freedom
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

— Devotional: (3)
Devotion is neither private nor public prayer, though public and private prayers are a part of devotion. Devotion signifies a life given or devoted to God.
The devout, therefore, are people who do not live to their own will, or in the way and spirit of the world, but only to the will of God. Such people consider God in everything, serve God in everything, and make every aspect of their lives holy by doing everything in the name of God and in a way that conforms to God’s glory.
We readily acknowledge that God alone is to be the rule and measure of our prayers. In our prayers we are to look totally unto him and act totally for him, and we must pray in this manner and for such ends as are suitable to his glory.

— Closing Prayer: (4)
God, we humbly seek you and devote ourselves to you today. By the power of your Spirit, help us to do so with a whole heart that we might reflect the life of Christ in this world.
